Ousmane Dembélé

PSG hope to get Ousmane Dembélé back free in 2022

Recruited in 2017 by Barcelona with Philippe Coutinho for make up Neymar’s departure to PSG, Ousmane Dembélé will be at the end of his contract in 2022. Barca are keen to extend the French striker, who was bought for €105m plus €40m in bonuses (€30m of the €40m has been paid out) from Borussia. Catalunya Ràdio reports that a meeting is scheduled for next week with his representatives. The Catalan leaders want a clear position from Ousmane Dembélé, who has so far been rather vague about his contract.

“Some suspect that he may already have a pre-agreement with a club and that in reality he just wants to wait until he is free in a year’s time,”

writes Mundo Deportivo.

“In this sense, the club knows that Juventus have tempted him on several occasions. Another “big one” has him in his sights: PSG, with Leonardo in mind. The sports manager of the Francilian club would like to sign him for free within a year, perhaps as an alternative to Mbappé, who also ends his contract in 2022. And also as a way to hurt Barca’s pride again. In any case, within the Barcelona club, it is clear: if Dembélé does not want to renew now, they will try to sell him or put him in a player exchange operation this summer. If the winger did not agree, it would be made clear to him that next season would be on the bench or in the cupboard. And Ronald Koeman’s hand doesn’t usually shake.”

The newspaper Sport talks about an ultimatum. Barça want to extend his contract for at least three years and quickly. This is to avoid finding themselves in a tricky situation at the end of the summer mercato with a player with only one year left on his contract, good to sell to avoid an industrial disaster in 2022.
